Theology

Theological studies will be undertaken at the Columban major seminary in Manila in the Philippines. Theological studies will normally take 3-4 years and may be temporarily interrupted by either Spiritual Year and/or First Mission Assignment.

The theological studies and formation at this stage, often called Major Seminary, are to prepare the candidate for mission and ministerial priesthood. Seminarians will study the various theological disciplines, eg. systematic, historical, liturgical and moral as well as missiology, Sacred Scripture and ministerial arts like preaching, liturgy, celebration of sacraments, ministries to the sick, dying, imprisoned, etc. Courses and workshops related to Catholic Social Teaching, peace-making, inter-religious dialogue, environmental sustainability and simple living will be stressed so that what we learn can be applied to the real situations we will encounter in whatever country we work.
