Candidates who complete the accompaniment process and are approved by the Admissions Board, will be presented to the US Regional Director and his Council for acceptance into formation. Upon approval they will begin their initial formation at the US/Mexico border in El Paso, Texas.
Candidates will live in the Columban mission center with other students as well as Columban priests who will oversee their formation. The formation program includes required courses in philosophy at local colleges and universities, as well as apostolic works related to Society priorities such as environmental justice and the poor in migration in El Paso and Cd. Juarez, Mexico.
Life in community will include regular community prayer, Eucharist, faith-sharing, meals, chores, recreation and dialogue of life. The length of this formation period may be longer or shorter depending on the philosophy courses and language requirements of the individual student. It will be at least one year. After successfully completing the formation program at the border, the student will be recommended to begin theology studies in the Philippines.
